Free Software Program Now Available for Many Students with Print Disabilities
We have acquired for your use a new software program named Read & Write Gold from TextHelp Systems. This software can help with both reading and writing. It can read textbooks in alternate formats aloud, and it has several tools available to assist with the writing process. It can even read course tests, and this year we plan a roll out of Read & Write Gold in the Testing Center. For more information, and to see if you are eligible for a free copy, visit us at 25 Capen Hall.
ACCESS Study
Assessment of Campus Climate to Enhance Student Success (ACCESS) is a research initiative of the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). The study has several goals. First is to ensure the best possible campus climate leading to the success of students with disabilities. As well as creating a more fully inclusive environment by enhancing knowledge, and changing attitudes and practices of key individuals in the campus environment. Data will be collected from faulty, administrators, staff and students with and without disabilities regarding the campus climate for students with disabilities. After the data collection is complete AHEAD will provide an expert prepared quantitative and qualitative report. ACCESS will provide UB with tools to take a proactive approach to creating a more supportive campus environment, one in which students with disabilities feel welcome and achieve a higher level of success. Additionally, it will demonstrate UB’s work toward increasing diversity and providing appropriate support for underrepresented students. ACCESS will also promote student retention, success, and satisfaction, while allowing DS to engage in data based strategic planning for faculty and staff development. Additional information.
